Tell us about your experience on Alone.
My experience on Alone was great. Not everything may have gone my way, but I’m honored to have had the opportunity to challenge myself in such a unique way.
How are you doing now having settled back into your normal life?
It’s great to be home with family and friends. They’ve been so supportive of everything I do. I’m in the process of moving my business out of state so things have been hectic during the move, but it’s all coming together now and it’s pretty exciting.
Can you tell us about what decisions led to you tapping out?
I was unlucky in the food department. A lack of food combined with isolation ultimately led to my decision to tap out.
What was your best meal in Mongolia?
I ate a few handfuls of ants and the occasional grub. I found many plants I was familiar with, but unfortunately, almost everything was dead or rotten.
What advice would you give to people who want to try something like Alone?
My advice for any upcoming contestants is to understand that nothing will ever go as planned. Keep a positive attitude and do your best with the skills you have. I may not have had great luck, but I kept a good mind set, and that is what has ultimately helped me to learn and grow from this experience.
How did Mongolia compare to your previous season?
Mongolia was a large change from Vancouver Island (season 4). This time, I had the chance to display my skills and set up a real camp. Before, my experience was short-lived due to an injury my brother suffered.
What did you learn about yourself going through this experience for a second time?
I will continue to grow as a survivalist, though my main focus is as a blacksmith/bladesmith. I am striving to be the best that I can be, and to take craftsmanship to another level through my company Timberlee Tool & Trade.
What experience in the wilderness have you always wanted to tackle?
This is a tricky question. Something I’ve always wanted to do is a long-term camp with a horse. And I’d really like to hone my skills in stone tool making.
Can you describe the feeling of being alone for extended periods of time?
I wouldn’t say my isolation had gotten completely depressing, but it did slow down time for me. While I may have been very busy scouting and fishing, the days still dragged on pretty slowly.
What do you hope viewers take away from your experience on this season on Alone?
Make the most out of every opportunity you get. Because if you don’t try, you will never succeed.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I’ve met a lot of Alone fans since season 4! A handful of you ask for my Facebook info, which I don’t have. But feel free to keep up with me on Instagram (@timberleeusa) or YouTube (/craftshopvideo).
